CALL FOR JUSTICE AND FREEDOM FOR ALBERTO PATISHTÁN

Compañeros and compañeras, brothers and sisters: 

We see the repression, militarization and criminalization against any attempt at free association and protest, which is the situation in our country today, exemplified by the violence unleashed in Acteal fifteen years ago which now threatens to return to the community of Puebla in Chenalhó, as well as to other peoples in resistance, Zapatistas or other organizations. All as a result of the bad behaviour of the Mexican political class whose government only serves the interests of the rich and powerful and of national and foreign businesses. It is a fact that those who organize and protest against this current state of affairs receive in return deception, repression, disappearance, prison or the grave as a response from this bad government.

Another example of injustice and resistance is the case of our brother Alberto Patishtán Gómez, who has spent thirteen years behind bars for organizing his people from El Bosque against the corruption of the municipal presidency. For this and for revenge the authorities fabricated a federal crime, sentencing him unjustly to 60 years in prison. Despite his imprisonment, Alberto Patishtán continues his struggle inside the prison and the result of this organizating has been the release of many innocent people.

For this reason we would like to invite you, on Wednesday August 21 2013, to a global action for Justice and Freedom for Alberto Patishtán; carrying out peaceful actions in each of your locations.

In the city of Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, we invite you to a pilgrimage starting at 8:00 am with a concentration of vehicles in the central market, which will then move in an organized way to the site which used to be the Mactumatzá spring, and is today a footbridge, where the pilgrimage to the Palace of Federal Justice (Boulevard Ángel Albino Corzo 2641) will begin and where other activities will continue.
